Some of the most valuable internet marketing tools are free

Posted by admin under Information Marketing

For me, most of my most valuable “never gonna give them up” internet marketing products are free.

Wordpress. Wordpress plugins. Flock or Firefox. Firefox or Flock addons. Social sites. Social media apps. Notecapturing software.

I am curious about the creators of these products. Obviously they aren’t making much money from their creations. Certainly I have in no way even begun to repay the creators of wordpress for the immensely valuable toll they have provided me. And yet, I can’t imagine trying to run my business without a wordpress blog. Sure, I have other blogs on other blogging platforms… but my “go to, most relied on, workhorse” blogging platform is wordpress. Hands down.

That is how I feel about flock as well. I like to use Explorer and FireFox just fine. But my preference is decidedly flock. Again, other than spread the word about flock and tell flocker on twitter how much I love flock, I certainly have gotten far more from flock than I can give back.

And truly, Google. I use many different Google applications. Here though, I feel a little better knowing that Google is making money and that these great programs are bringing in a solid income for their creators.

I just find it odd that after all my time online and after all the money I have spent in internet marketing, the most invaluable services I have are free. Realizing this has helped me to stop pulling out my credit card so quickly. I am much more picky now about what is worth my money.

I also am much more apt to make a donation to the creators of the applications that I do rely on. I want to encourage these programmers to continue to make such fine programs and to let them know how much I appreciate them.

Plus, I think it gives me good internet karma. :)

Videos coming…

Posted by admin under Information Marketing

I am hoping to get some time this week to work on a couple of videos for this blog.

Here’s to hoping that this week I actually have the time I hope I do.  Right now, my time is just slammed.  I am moving to Hawaii in 23 days.  I am finishing a huge project for the US Army right now and need to have that done in about 10 days.  I am trying to enjoy every minute I can with my husband before he deploys for 15 months.

I need to outsource my life.

Vivaty – More “Social” Social

Posted by admin under Social Networking

Vivaty look VERY cool!  It looks like it would be very social.  Kind of like second life meets facebook.Vivaty Logo

It looks like it might be even easier to use than Second Life.  Although I don’t know if you can fly.

It doesn’t work with Macs or Firefox which rules out some of the usual early adopter crowd though.

But I like the way it seems to merge with Facebook, Flickr, YouTube… it looks like it is ratcheting social networking up a notch!

Post To Twitter = Facebook Status

Posted by admin under Social Networking

Some folks facebook status sits in stasis for days at a time.  (Weeks… Months…)

But yours doesn’t have to!  Using the “Twitter” application, updating our facebook status is as simple as a twitter.

Post to Twitter = Facebook Status

Show your facebook friends what you are REALLY up to by combining your Twitter posts with Facebook.

For your Facebook friends that are using Flock, your twitter posts will keep you showing up in your Friends “Facebook” sidebar often and give them another way to connect with what you are doing.

Go to applications and type in Twitter.  Add the twitter app.  You will need to link the two accounts (Twitter and Facebook) and after that… updating your status is a piece of cake!

Tired of “Add Application” Facebook Requests?

Posted by admin under Flock, Information Marketing

A recent addition to Facebook is the ability to “block application spam”.

If you are fed up with requests to throw sheep (which I personally enjoy, but you may not) or to become a vampire, you now have the power to block that application directly from the request.  If you block an application, you won’t be sent any more notices from that particular aplication.Block Facebook Applications

When you get a request from an application, you now have the ability to “Block Application” directly from the request. If you block an application, it will not be able to send you any more requests.

Expired and Unused Logins

Posted by admin under Information Marketing

I am clearing out old “logins” or “passcards” that I have accumulated during the past ten years of being online.  These old logins have just been cluttering up my roboform forever and now my 1password. I have logins to so many sites that don’t exist anymore.  Some of these sites haven’t existed in this century in fact.
In a way, the fact that so many of these sites are now defunct makes me feel better about all the sites I have built in the past and just let dwindle into nothingness or ideas I have had that had a very short shelf life

In fact, isn’t that what is so great about building an information marketing business on the internet.  Unlike the investment in time and money that a brick and mortar business idea requires to execute, an internet-based business idea demands very little time or money to give an idea a go.

If the idea pans out… great!  If not, then so what.  Not much lost.

And if it pans out but interest is lost over time, the business is  erased as domain names expire or change hands.

In a weird sort of way, the internet is an ecosystem with decomposers waiting in the wings to reabsorb the detritus of old websites.  Domain names expire and are either repurchased and relaunched as something new or just disappear.

Of course, that still doesn’t change the fact that I have 1315 logins on my computer and at least 2/3rds of them probably should be deleted.  Ugh.  This could take a while.

Not Sure about the Point of Zombo

Posted by admin under Just For Fun

“Welcome to Zombo.Com! Anything is possible at Zombo.Com. The unattainable is unknown at Zombo.com.

I am not sure what the point is at Zombo other than to totally crack me up.  Plus, who wouldn’t want to spend their time where the unattainable is unknown.  Especially when there are a few things I want to attain.

Welcome to Zombo.com.  Anything is possible at Zombo.com.  Zombo, all I can say is, where have you been all my life.

Web 2.0 takes over the world!

Posted by admin under Social Networking

Or at least, makes a map of the world.

World Mosaic Created From 1001 Web 2.0 Logos

This really cool mosaic takes web 2.0 icons and logos and makes a mosaic of the world.

Perhaps there are some web 2.0 sites you haven’t seen! I know there are a few that I haven’t. I look forward to checking them out.

(And as one of my favorite observation goes… people are so clever!)

Well, I finally got on board the Seesmic train.  I can see the appeal.  Especially for the added benefit of being able to post video comments on blogs.  That is so handy and quick!

Of course, I have to freshen up my make-up first and make sure I have good lighting, and I have tell my family to be quiet so I can put a video comment on a blog… oh and set my bird outside so she doesn’t screech during the video.

Uhh… hm.  A video blog comment doesn’t really seem that handy now that I list it all out.
I still like it though.  It appeals to my inner geek.  It’s totally worth all the trouble.

Twitter and Technorati

Posted by admin under Information Marketing

Earlier today, I was browsing a blog post called Several Habits of Wildly Successful Tiwtter Uers and was surprised to see an idea that had never occurred to me before.

I consider myself kind of caught up on the whole twitter scene but it had never occurred to me to claim my twitter feed on technorati! So, I went over to Technorati and did this right away.

Simple enough but should have nice dividends in the long run.
