Social Media: PLURK

Posted by admin under Social Networking

So, I have been trying plurk for awhile now. Personally, I am not crazy about it. I think it is tedious.

I was skimming the tweets about plurk and found a comment that described plurk so awesomely that I had to share…

The comment was made by twitterer ikepigott who said: “Plurk is too much work. It’s Whack-a-Mole messaging.”

Ha! Whack-a-Mole messaging! That’s hilarious and such a perfect description.

For now, I think I will stick to twitter and friend feed. We shall see if I change my mind.

Best wordpress plugin ever

Posted by admin under Wordpress

Okay, there are so many wordpress plugins that I can’t imagine not having.

But, without question, the best wordpress plugin ever has to be the wordpress auto updater.

I love wordpress, but I hate always having to update it. And I feel like I am always updating SOMETHING. Either wordpress itself or one of my plugins, or my theme. What a pain!!

No matter how easy updating wordpress plugin is (and I have put out a video about how to easily and thoroughly update a self-hosted wordpress blog) it is still a pain to have to do. Download this.. backup that… turn off plugins… ftp this… delete these files… ugh.

But the wordpress auto updater does all this for me now! LOVE IT!! It takes the process of updating a blog and reduces it to less than five minutes. Talk about a work/time saver.

If you don’t have this plugin… get it. Get it today.

I have moved from FireFox to Flock.

Posted by admin under Flock

Last summer, I moved to Firefox exclusively.  I had it all pimped and loved it.

BUT… yesterday, I changed to Flock and love it. Love it.  LOVE IT.  Okay, seriously, I “heart” flock.

Luckily, it is built on top of Firefox, so a lot of my plugins still worked.  Not all of them, but a lot.

Of course, I will need to figure out the tweaks and tips for this new browser, and I am looking forward to it.

So, here’s the big question… why Flock and not Firefox?

Flock is brilliant, BRILLIANT, for social networking.  The more I get into social marketing, the harder it gets to keep up with it all, but Flock makes it so easy by building in a sidebar dedicated to my social sites.

Twitter, facebook, pownce, digg… all built in.  Youtube, revver, del.icio.us, magnolia, my gmail, yahoo mail, you name it, I am linked into it.  Pretty much everything except “friendfeed” but I am on that on twirl, so that is okay.

So far, this Flock browser has been tremendous in meeting my web 2.0/social networking internet needs.

Check it out if you haven’t seen it before… http://flock.com

It’s free, it’s genius, and it’s only getting better!

For anyone trying to build a business as a blogger

Posted by admin under Blog Marketing

This is an old post (well at least in internet time) from February but it is so good that I felt it had to be reread.

This is a sobering thought-provoker for anyone who is trying to build an income by blogging. It reminds us that blogging itself doesn’t produce any income. I hope everyone reads it and really applies it.

MailPlane To Organize All Your Gmail Accounts

Posted by admin under Information Marketing

Hey Thirty Day Challenge Members… do you have several Gmail accounts?

One for each of your niches?

Sure you can do some Gmail tricks (like umbrella.phrase@gmail.com or generic+umbrellaphrase@gmail.com) but I may have a better solution for you!

Have you heard of MailPlane?  I just heard of it, and it is still beta, but this may be the thing you are looking for!!

I am going to get an account and I will have FIVE BETA invites for anyone who wants to try them!!  (Downside… it is only for Mac users!)

MailPlane will allow you to access your various gmail accounts!!  I am just looking into it but here is what I have found so far…

Invitations for Mailplane – first come, first served, for free

Mailplane is only in beta, but it really works well. Even if you only have a single Gmail account, Mailplane is worthwhile. It’s a customized web browser that handles your Gmail. Using Mailplane is better than checking Gmail with Outlook or another POP mail reader, as Mailplane is accessing Gmail as a web service.

Make A Smarter Twitter

Posted by admin under Information Marketing

In my attempts to explore web 2.0 tools to help me make money online, I ran into Chris Brogan on twitter.  Chris is a master at social networking.  Today, I got to be one of the people who tried to help Chris Brogan problem solve a wordpress problems via twitter. In fact, he said my solution one the prize!

Here is a little more about the situation… one of Chris’ plugins was causing 500 errors.  He tried quite a few different things to solve the problem needed help.  Not only did he contact customer support for his webhost, he reached out to his twitter community.  (His twitcommunity is huge.)  He put up a tweet about needing help and got people right away offering suggestions.

My suggestion was to use his FTP program and copy all of his plugins from his site onto his computer.  Then to upload and activate them one at a time until he found the one causing the errors.  Guess it worked because his 500 errors are gone!

Here is his post about how great it was to use twitter to connect with a community and problem solve. I really liked his points about being a Smarter Twitter (smarter twit? smarter twitterer? smarter tweeter?) and included his points below.

Fixing Wordpress with Twitter : [chrisbrogan.com]

Make a Smarter Twitter* Fish around for Twitterers who write intelligent twits. (No really!) Add them.

* Look for @somefriend responses from YOUR friends that seem intelligent and point to someone smart. Add THEM.

* Remove all the post-Twitter users like news and stuff. Use RSS for that.

* Remove all the faux celebrity Twitterers.

* Ask better questions with your 140 characters. You’ll get better answers.
Use Twittersearch to fish for answers.

The great thing about twitter is that it really helps you to build a community online… and for anyone trying to make money online, you need a community!

Facebook Basics

Posted by admin under Videos, Web 2.0 Marketing

I had a couple of people contact me via facebook and skype saying that they really needed some help with the basics of getting started in facebook.

I created a video for them to watch. The editing is kind of choppy at the end and I am so totally wanting to redo the whole video but I am getting behind in my other projects and so decided to just put up what I have done and call it good enough for now.

The video can be found at Facebook Basics Video

Using Facebook To Build A Network

Posted by admin under Videos, Web 2.0 Marketing

I had a few thirty day challenge friends and team members tell me that they aren’t using twitter or facebook and they don’t really understand the point of it.

This video is my response to them of why I think they should be using twitter and facebook to build an internet marketing network for themselves.

I have a very high quality Facebook Networking video available. When you get to the high quality video page, use your F11 key to get rid of your toolbars so you can see the full video.

If you want to watch the video on youtube, you can see it here.

I hope you enjoyed the video. Please leave feedback either here or at youtube of what SPECIFICALLY would you like me to show you about using facebook and twitter.
